#1 Experiment - Coloured flowers

As part of our science inquiry this term we are carrying out experiments to help us learn about the environment. Today we carried out our first experiment in order to find out how plants get their nutrients. First we took 5 white flowers of the same kind and placed them in jars with equal water and food colouring. We then observed them over the next 24 hours. Here is what happened...

After 24 hours we only noticed a slight change in the yellow and blue flowers but after 48 hours the colour change was easy to see. Heres what each colour looked like, can you see the food colouring?

The blue and yellow food colourings definitely worked best.

  1. This has been a great experiment because the flower actually soaks up the coloured water.
    Nice Job!
